keep your arms stretched out on both sides
as we cast our stones,
larger than balled fists.
perhaps you'd prefer the fists,
but we're already armed and hate to break tradition.
you are hereby punished for doing and saying
what you normally wouldn't do or say--
you could blame it on the summer's heat
and wearing too many clothes
or being sheltered
or whatever the tramps rely on to do their tramping.
keep your head up; we want to see your face,
tear streaked, marked,
dirty, unpleading.
welcome your death as much as you welcome vice.
