Dead Business (lyrics)

These last few weeks I've been a ghost
a little less than alive,
wasting my time,
passing through closed doors I thought I'd left behind.
All I've got left: a billow of smoke and the memory of a spine.

I try to start a conversation,  the reply's "who's there?"
I know you've seen me flicker your lights,
heard me creak down your stairs.
I'm haunting your attic, I want you to notice
but you never go up there.

And now I finally see what they've been trying to tell me
how this dead business ain't all it's cracked up to be.
I've paid my dues, I did my time,
I've gotten so tired of standing in line.
Won't somebody let me in?

Somebody let me in.
I'm dying to get in.
