A Prayer to St Columba (Riverine)

A tributary, the whole of all waters
flowing westward to the ocean.

I have been a flood of balladry
now
bound by the drought of my wrists,
O martyr (I speak of myself)
who's chipped teeth on the silt
of experience
and spat back polished stone
seeks intercession from
he they call patron
of both poetry and floods
for each is a braided stream
I've lost the dexterity to unwind.
