A Fever in Blue and Red

I am burning up.
My eyes are but two hot coins.
Even in death, I am in debt
and dreaming of the longest rivers.

I am sweating;
this is the break.

It is here my tongue bears the weight of all language.
It is here, I speak less to make soft my western ear
yet I am screaming in Japanese,
sighing in Czech,
whining in no one's French
je brûle, je brûle,
je gèle.

I ask, how far is west 'til it becomes again east?
I thrash like a fish when I can't sleep.
