i lay in fear of what dreams are
to come in your absence,
wonder if sleeping will ever be the same
as i am without that raucous hum
that i've come to accept as a cradle,
a vicious nod back and forth,
yet i am held in place,
a gravitational pull into the
space between the bed and walls,
where i am child again,
conquered by winks.
